Wind Chill

A measure of how much colder moving air makes a given temperature feel, by speeding up the rate the body loses heat.

Wind strips away the thin layer of warm air the body naturally holds close to the skin, so the stronger the wind, the faster heat is lost and the colder a given air temperature feels. Wind chill is the winter counterpart to the heat index, and becomes especially important below freezing, where a strong wind can turn a cold but manageable day into one with a real risk of frostbite on exposed skin.
