WeatherTell.com respects your privacy and handles personal data carefully. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what choices you have.

What data do we collect?
Analytics (only after consent). We use Google Analytics, via Google Tag Manager, to see how many visitors the site gets and how it's used. This only happens after you give consent through the cookie banner. Google Analytics sets cookies for this and processes data such as your (shortened) IP address, device type and pages visited.
Location data. If you click "My location", your browser or device asks for your precise location. These coordinates are used to (1) fetch the weather forecast for your area from Open-Meteo, and (2) determine the matching place name via BigDataCloud. We don't store this location data ourselves.
Search queries. When you type a place name into the search box, it's used to look up the matching location via Open-Meteo's geocoding service. We don't store these search queries.
Cookies and similar technology
We only set analytics cookies (from Google) after you've given consent. We also use technically necessary local storage (localStorage) to remember choices you've made, such as your cookie preference, so we don't need to keep asking. This technical storage doesn't require consent, since no personal data is collected or shared through it.
You can change your analytics cookie consent at any time via the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page.
Who do we share data with?
- Open-Meteo — provides the weather forecasts and location search.
- BigDataCloud — determines the place name for your coordinates (reverse geocoding).
- Google (Analytics/Tag Manager) — visitor statistics, only after consent.
- Vercel — hosts the website itself.
We don't sell data to third parties and don't use your data for advertising purposes.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default settings. Location and search data used to fetch a forecast is not stored by us at all — it's used only for that single request.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, and to object to its processing. Contact us at info@gianboender.nl for any of these requests. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect the site and any data processed through it. No system is completely without risk, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
