Why do these records only start in 1940?
Our data comes from Open-Meteo's ERA5 reanalysis dataset, which only provides coverage from 1940 onward. Official UK weather records go back further, but they are not part of the dataset we use here, so records from before 1940 cannot be derived from this overview.
